Doug Bedwell, 17, a 27-yard handicap trapshooter from Brazil, Ind., became only the second junior in history to break 100 straight doubles and hit 397 out of 400 (two short of the high overall record), while winning the four-day state trap-shoot championships.

Ray Lyon, 54, owner of a cosmetics firm in Downey, Calif., who is studying business at Cal State (Los Angeles), earned his first varsity letter, winning three conference tennis matches after sitting out a mandatory red-shirt year as a transfer from Fordham (1932).
