FACES IN THE CROWD

Marlin McPhail, a versatile 8-year-old from Norwichtown, Conn., in a 12-day period won a junior golf tournament, took five swimming events in dual meets and two firsts in a sectional championship, and led his Little League farm team to a pennant.

Dr. Alex Ratelle, a Minneapolis anesthesiologist and former sports car racing driver, shifted sporting gears and won the Over-40 Division of the Heart of America Marathon in Columbia, Mo. His time was 2:57:27, which was good enough for eighth overall.

Gus Dagnus of Swissvale, Pa. scored touchdowns of one, 16, 42, 44 and 78 yards as Swissvale High defeated Monaca High 38-13. A 210-pound halfback, Dagnus, who gained 853 yards running and pass receiving last year as a sophomore, also kicks for his team.

Leslie Teel, 14, of Prairie Village, Kans., who spent the summer breaking regional AAU age group records, was named the outstanding woman swimmer in the Missouri Valley area for 1968. On one occasion Miss Teel broke no fewer than six meet records.

Jill Healy, a Stockton, Calif. high school junior, was named to the United States Ail-American Junior Girls Bowling Team. After seven years of bowling, Miss Healy has amassed over 50 trophies and has a high game of 260, a high series of 620.

Dick Redfield, a Denver salesman, won his first important title after 24 years of sailing: the Pacific Coast Sunfish championship on Bear Lake in Utah. Redfield finished first in five of the eight races in the regatta to win easily over Bob Miller, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
