FACES IN THE CROWD

Oren Blaisdell of Sacramento, a 10-year-old who has been taking judo for three years and has won more than 150 matches (including a first in a U.S. age-group championship), was recently voted outstanding junior competitor for Northern California.

Rosemarie Seaman of Winter Park, Fla. closed out her 10-and-under swimming career with three national records, two in her age group and one in Junior Olympics. In her first meet as an 11-year-old, Rosemarie won three gold medals in the butterfly and freestyle.

Barry Sherwood, a sophomore forward on the Rensselaer Polytech hockey team, filled in at goal and made 36 saves while shutting out powerful Boston University 7-0. Sherwood had only played goalie twice before in his life—in freshman practice.

Bob Benjamin, 15, a Columbus, Ohio weight lifter, set an Ohio AAU Junior Olympic three-lift total record in the 132-pound class. He pressed 160, snatched 155 and jerked 225 pounds. His brother Jim is a former national champion in the 132-pound division.

Thomas Turner, a 97-pound sixth-grader at the Wadsworth, Ohio Sacred Heart School, bowled an outstanding two game series of 299-232—531 in his after-school bantam league. The secret? Mother's coaching, Thomas claims. His average: 171, hers: 142.

Frank Weiss, a 6'4" senior at Holy Ghost Prep in Cornwells Heights, Pa., has averaged 30.3 points and 20.7 rebounds a game while hitting on 57% of his shots. He has had 59-, 54-, 42- and 40-point games in leading Holy Ghost to an 8-6 record.
