FACES IN THE CROWD

Mrs. Sally Rice, a mother of three from Naalehu, Hawaii, set a world all-tackle record for women with a 583½-pound Pacific blue I marlin on 130-pound test off Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The fish, 3½ pounds heavier than the old record, was brought to boat after 40 minutes.

Ben Tidwell, 12, scored all of his Douglasville (Ga.) Recreation Department team's points as the Lakers beat the Hawks 35-26 to open their season. Ben, 5'2", averages 22 points a game—for the most part on long jumpers—despite double coverage.

Dora Lee Roberts, 14, of Riverdale, Calif., set an AAU Junior Olympic record when she sailed 19'1" in the long jump in a meet in Bakersfield. She also won a Junior Olympic high-jump title at 4'10"—a height she has since upped to 5'4"—and runs the 50 in 6.2.

Matthew B. Ridgway Jr., a sophomore at Bucknell University, leads the seven-team Eastern Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Rifle League with a midseason average of 271.6 out of a possible 300. Matt was given his first rifle at the age of 5 by his father, the general.

Bobby Gamache of Manchester, N.H. won the three-mile forced march in 34:8.0 and the 100-yard dash in 14 seconds in the National Snowshoe Championships, run over snowless streets in Biddeford, Me. Gamache holds the world record of 1:08 in the 440.

Jimmy Grahn, 15, of Roseau, Minn., a snowmobiler since he was 5, jumped 101' at a roundup in Rolla, N. Dak. He also took first in his class of lap races (up to 320 cc), second in the sprints and four stitches in his forehead when he overjumped the impact area.
