FACES IN THE CROWD

John Mills, a 6'5" junior at Gray Court-Owings (S.C.) High School, has averaged 34.1 points and 21.8 rebounds per game, hitting on 60% from the floor and 76.3% from the line. His best game was against Ford High, when he scored 74 points in a 151-65 win.

Tom Ratliffe, running in the event for the first time, led from the 21-mile mark to win the Beltsville (Md.) marathon in 2:27:48, just 5:03 off the course record. Ratliffe, a senior at Gettysburg College, also was the first non-area resident to win the race.

Rodney Glover Jr. of Cincinnati, a mechanical engineer, won the 15th annual Thistle-class Winter Sailing Championships at St. Petersburg, Fla. over 63 competitors, finishing 1¼ points ahead of Olympic Star-class gold medalist Pete Barrett.

Mrs. Shirley Gavin, a mother of three from Eagle River, Alaska, won the women's eight-dog team world sled-dog championship at Anchorage, mushing 20 miles in 1:12:44. Mrs. Gavin, who has been racing for 12 years, had previously-taken the title in 1966.

Dick Dread, 18, won the 178-pound novice championship in the Buffalo Golden Gloves tournament, defeating J. R. Williams. A guard on the Lafayette High School basketball team, Dick played a full game, scoring 11 points, the day of his semifinal bout.

Rob Crawford, a senior at Lakeview High, had a 22-0 record and won the Oregon heavyweight wrestling title in the A2 class (schools of 200 to 600 students). Despite breaking his hand in his second match, Crawford pinned all four of his opponents.
