FACES IN THE CROWD

George Amundson, of Aberdeen Central High, threw the discus 211'4" in the South Dakota high school track meet for a new national record, breaking the existing one by 14'1". He also set a state shotput mark (62'1"). George was All-State in basketball and football.

Rob Schleider, a pitcher for the Bryan (Tex.) A&M Consolidated Tigers, threw a perfect game against Crockett High, striking out all 21 batters. In 80 innings this season, Rob has pitched two other no-hitters and struck out no fewer than 147 batters.

Tim Turner, a Lehigh senior and All-Middle Atlantic Conference lacrosse attackman, scored 11 goals and an assist in a 16-5 win over Dickinson. Tim had missed two games with a sprained ankle, hut in the 12 remaining he scored 42 goals and had three assists.

Charles Barthrop, a midshipman from Piedmont, Calif., won his third sailing title for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy when he took the Shields Intercollegiate Championship, a two-day series of eight races in Shields class sloops on Long Island Sound.

Beth Anders, a senior at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., completed her high school athletic career on her 10th undefeated team. Beth played lacrosse four years, basketball and field hockey three each, and is proficient in squash.

James Hulick, 15, of Sterling, Mass., rode Louis Terramagra's Sea Surge to the junior jumper championship and Cedar Lodge Farm's General C. to the large junior working hunter title at the Devon (Pa.) horse show, following successes in Connecticut.
