FACES IN THE CROWD

John Williams, 15, of Cranesville, Pa., the 1967 Junior Archery champion, broke two world records in qualifying for the world championships. He scored 1,242 points for one FITA round and set another record in the 70-meter segment of the round with 320.

Scooter Kinsey, 14, of Fort Myers, Fla., who qualified this spring for the third spot on the national Optimist Pram class sailing team, won the first U.S. championship regatta for the tiny but lively boats at Miami, with two second-place finishes and one fourth.

Debbie Johnsey, 11, of Devauden, England, became the youngest rider ever to join the British show-jumping team for international competition, when she qualified at the All-England Jumping Course on Champ VI for the junior European championships.

Peter Denz, 18, an All-Connecticut basketball star for Cromwell High, went on to baseball and hurled five no-hitters, four of them consecutively. In those games he not only struck out 62 batters but also slammed three home runs and had 11 runs batted in.

Keith Amundsen, 12, of Orlando, Fla., swam the 110-yard freestyle in 1:01 during the Cypress Gardens Invitational, breaking both the national and state AAU age-group records. Keith set state marks in two other freestyle races and the 55-yard breaststroke.

Ricky Pope, a 15-year-old Granger, Texas farm boy who has been skeet shooting for just three years, battled near-gale winds in the state championships to break 497 targets out of a possible 500, setting a world junior record and barely missing the world open record.
