FACES IN THE CROWD

Dennis Coady, a senior halfback at Worcester (Mass.) Academy who until this year concentrated on defense, ran for 190 yards from scrimmage, made a 92-yard kickoff return and scored four touchdowns as the Hill-toppers beat Cheshire Academy 41-20.

Carlester Crumpler has led Fike High of Wilson, N.C. to the state 4-A football championship for two years and seems to be doing it again. The Cyclones have won eight straight, and Carlester has gained 1,360 yards—11.3 per carry—and has scored 20 TDs.

Tyler Gearhart, 10, right wing for the Ruxton Raccoons of the Towsontowne (Md.) Recreation Council soccer league, has paced his team this season with 13 goals in six games, while the Raccoons have scored 30 goals in all and are yet to be scored upon.

Denis Fikes, a senior at Rice High in New York City, won his third annual NYU Interscholastic cross-country run, breaking the meet record set by Marty Liquori in 1966 by 14.3 seconds. His 12:26.8 for the 2½-mile course was his best ever at the distance.

Fred Bauer, 17, of South Norwalk, Conn., rode an 8-year-old gelding, Birchbark, in the American Horse Show Association hunter seat medal class and won over 79 riders from 23 states in the finals at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg.

Kathy Jacobo, a fifth-grade schoolteacher, won the Indianapolis Sailing Club championship by piling up the most points in four heats on Geist Reservoir. Her opponents were 11 male club members representing each of the club's six fleets.
