FACES IN THE CROWD

Michael Bocon is the only goalie the soccer team of St. Paul Catholic High in Bristol, Conn. has ever had; and in the two years and 28 games since it began play he has allowed only nine goals. St. Paul's record this season is 12-3-2. Ten wins were shutouts.

Lem James of New Canaan (Conn.) High has, in 10 games this season, carried 162 times for 1,200 yards and 25 TDs, caught 30 passes for 426 yards and eight TDs and set a state record with 40 points in one game, though he played only in the first half.

Dave Kinyon scored eight of the Wisconsin Rugby Club's points as they beat the University of Illinois 11-6. The five-year club career of the all-Midwest back-fielder ended a week later when he went into training for a South American Peace Corps assignment.

Ole Gunderson, sophomore halfback for St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., who never played 11-man football until college, rushed for 356 yards in a 38-31 win over Monmouth. The total was the sixth highest for a single game in collegiate football history.

David Merrick, 16, won the Illinois high school cross-country championship in the record time of 13:19.4 for 2.75 miles on the University of Illinois golf course. A junior at Lincoln-Way High in New Lenox, Merrick was undefeated during the 1969 season.

Janis Fish co-captained the Easton (Pa.) Area High held hockey team to 10 wins, all shutouts, and its second straight league championship while setting three school scoring records—six goals in one game, 34 for the season and 74 for her varsity career.
