Ron Stonitsch, a junior at C.W. Post College in New York, captured the individual title at the NCAA College Division cross-country championships in Wheaton, Ill. He completed the snow-covered, 5-mile course at the Chicago Golf Club in a record 24:53.
Howard Stevens of Harrisonburg, Va. led the Randolph-Macon College Yellow Jackets to a 47-28 win over the University of Bridgeport in the Knute Rockne Bowl in Bridgeport, Conn. The sophomore tailback rushed for 195 yards and scored three touchdowns.
Barbara Hauptfuhrer beat several outstanding junior players to win the Huntingdon Valley (Pa.) Country Club women's golf championship. She thus completed her second sweep of the club's events for women, having already won tennis singles and doubles.
Dave Rath, a Bucknell University senior who has played varsity soccer for three years, scored his 16th goal of the season and the 35th of his career in a 3-1 win over Lafayette College. Both totals are school scoring records, the latter having stood since 1960.
Robert Berry, 12, of Worcester, Mass., led his Oxford Street School football team to the city grade-school championship by scoring all four touchdowns in its 25-6 win over the Nelson Place School. His total for the season was 23 touchdowns in seven games.
Rilly Strona, 8, of the Florence (Ala.) Swim Team, won seven age-group events at the Southeastern AAU Cotton Capitol swim meet in Memphis and broke SEAAU records in three—25-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke and 50-yard breaststroke.
