Marshall Gray rode her gray gelding, Magyar Pajtas, to wins in the juniper stake, puissance and high-and-wide at the Atlantic Winter Fair in Halifax, Nova Scotia. On her sister's Appaloosa, Shavano's Pride, she took the working hunter McCulloch Stake.

Paul Sherman, senior center halfback, was voted Most Valuable Player for the third year at the NCAA Mideast Soccer Championships, after leading Wheaton (Ill.) College to its fourth consecutive regional title with 2-1 wins over Wooster and Kenyon Colleges.

Dave White, senior at El Modena High in Orange, Calif., won the high school division of the U.S. Track and Field Federation's three-mile postal run at Occidental College in 14:19.7, then returned 30 minutes later to take fifth in the open event in 14:27.8.

Onosai Tanuvasa of Farrington High became the first ballcarrier in the history of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu to gain more than 1,000 yards rushing when he finished his school's nine-game season with 1,076 yards and 13 touchdown in 179 carries.
