Steve Danosi, 16, of Southfield, Mich., won the foil title at the state fencing championships, beating Bruce Davis, twice NCAA champion, and two-time All-America Richard Milazzo. He then won his second straight Canadian Junior National Foil championship.
After twice leading the Little Chiefs softball team to victory in the San Gabriel Valley meet and Los Angeles County Tournament of Champions, 16-year-old triplets VICKIE, VALINDA and VALERIE VALDEZ are off to another fast start, with a 5-0 record, including one shutout. Pitcher Vickie has a two-year mark of 49-3 and is batting .409; Second Baseman Valinda has a .588 batting average and Shortstop Valerie is hitting .410. Vickie hurled four no-hitters and one perfect game last season, and in one stretch of 28 wins she struck out 165 batters in 184 innings.
Kevin Meyers, a sophomore at Herndon (Va.) High, set a new state record in the pole vault with 14'6" at the Virginia state meet. He won eight events this season, with a previous best of 14'4¾"—making each of his winning vaults on the first attempt.
Alexander Anderson, a Bucknell junior, posted a 14-0 singles record to lead the school to its second straight Middle Atlantic Conference title and first unbeaten tennis season in 32 years. His two-year singles record is 26-1, and his doubles record this year is 10-0.
Jimmie Wisdom, 11, of Escondido, Calif., broke five national age-group records, swimming the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.9, the 100-meter backstroke in 1:17.3 the 200-meter short-course free in 2:22.2 and 2:21.4, the 200-meter long-course free in 2:21.5.
