George Kyser, All-League middle linebacker for the Kenai (Alaska) high school football team, averaged 17 tackles a game, with a high of 29, during Kenai's recently completed seven-game schedule. On offense he caught 38 passes for 457 yards as a tight end.
Vicky Foltz, a member of the Falcon Track Club, in Seattle, toppled four world women's track records during a one-hour run for distance, setting marks at four miles, (23:05.2), five miles (29:07.7), six miles (35:00.5) and 10,000 meters (36:13.8).
Jim Whitley of Decatur, Ala., a former Air Force combat pilot, won his second U.S. Masters Radio Control Model Flyers Tournament by outpointing 33 other competitors with his remote-controlled handling of a six-pound, 58-inch gasoline-powered plane.
Al Vitiello set a national junior college record by kicking a 60-yard field goal as Nassau (Long Island) Community College defeated Baltimore CC 24-20. Last year Vitiello, who is also a soccer standout, kicked five field goals of over 40 yards.
Randy Ecker, senior quarterback for Boiling Springs (Pa.) High School, completed 18 of 22 passes for 350 yards and nine touchdowns in his team's 73-12 pasting of Big Spring High. For the season his record is 70 completions in 111 attempts for 952 yards, 18 touchdowns.
Rick Decker is the top runner on the Cortez High School cross-country team in Phoenix, which has won two straight Arizona state championships and was victorious in 34 of its last 35 meets, including a string of 29 consecutive victories from 1967 to 1970.
