Jeff Guyton of Toledo led his St. Francis Dc Sales High wrestling team to a 65-0 victory over Libbey with a pin at 121 pounds. The win boosted the Knights' dual-meet win string to 97. Guyton, 10-1 this year, is a National AAU Junior Olympic champion.
Leigh Hennessy, 12, of Lafayette, La. took four of five events, including the age group and senior, on the trampoline at the National Gymnastic Clinic at Sarasota, Fla. She had already captured first place in the 11-12 age group at the Mid-Winter NAAU Invitational.
Rebecca Palmer of Patten, Maine scored 61 points to lead Katahdin High to a 91-30 victory over Oakfield High. The 5'6" senior sank 27 of 39 field-goal tries and seven of seven free throws. Katahdin has been undefeated three of the four years she has been playing.
Hugh Miller, 14, of Sacramento set a national age-group and high school freshmen record in his first marathon by covering a 26-mile course in 2:43.4. Miller started distance running when he won a bet that he couldn't finish in a three-day 100-mile meet.
Harold McCune, 61, of Denver averaged 65.96 mph to capture the 225 Invitational Outboard Sprint Marathon at Miami, outdistancing a field of 25, including favored Bill Sirois. McCune won the event easily over 14 who managed to finish the 90-lap grind.
John Garrett of Peru, Ind., who has an average of 30 points, scored 49 points and collected 34 rebounds to lead Peru High to a 97-53 triumph over Maconaquah. The point total established a school scoring mark and the rebounding figure equaled another.
