Barbara Wischmeier, a 6'1" senior at Mediapolis (Iowa) High, scored 71 points in a 104-103 overtime victory in the quarterfinals of the Iowa Girls' Basketball Tournament. She averaged 40 points a game in regular season play and 47 in the tournament.
Larry Cichanowicz, 17, of Staten Island, N.Y. smashed one state and four city swimming records in one week, breaking the state 100-yard freestyle mark with a time of 47.9 seconds and setting New York City records in the 50, 100, 200 and 400-yard freestyle.
Brad Weiss, a 10-year-old 60-pound wrestler from University Heights, Ohio, had a 20-0 season, including 16 wins by pins in less than a minute—one in six seconds. In his first 14 matches he wrestled a total of 10 minutes without allowing a point.
Christine Coleman, 13, of Brooklyn took first place for juvenile girls in both the National and the North American indoor speed skating championships and was awarded a trophy for Outstanding Female Skater at the North American Championship.
Janelle Clark, 17, of Lake Charles, La. was ranked No. 1 in 18-and-under singles and women's singles and 18-and-under doubles by the Louisiana Lawn Tennis Association. She won the rankings without losing a match or even a set against any player in the state.
Karl Frohm, a Sophomore honor student at Pittsford (N.Y.) High, scored 20 goals for High View Farm Club in a 35-7 polo victory over the University of Pennsylvania, bringing his own total to 81 goals in 13 games. The 15-year-old is also a varsity wrestler.
