Juanita Santana, 13, won seven titles in the Baltimore County Table Tennis tournament, capturing the singles for girls under 13, 15, 17 and unlimited, and sharing three doubles titles. In her last two tournaments she has had 14 consecutive victories.
Tony Colosi, a guard, scored a club record of 76 points, five more than all his opponents, as the Oak Valley (N.J.) Americans beat West Deptford in a pony division basketball game in the Gloucester County League. His team went on to win the Tri-County championship.
Howard Banich, 15, of Arvada (Colo.) High, broke the world age-group discus record with a throw of 179'7", more than six feet beyond the old mark. He also holds the record for 13- and 14-year-olds and the 14-year-old marks for the 8- and 12-pound shotput.
Daniel Buggs of Avondale High in Decatur, Ga. was an all-state end on his 9-1 football team, averaged 18 points for his basketball team that made the playoffs, is the state record holder in the 440-yard dash (46.9) and was voted top performer in three relays.
Kevin Keegan, captain of the Wheeling College rugby team, was named Most Valuable Player in a tournament at Hampden-Sydney, Va. He scored 37 points in successive shutouts over Hampden-Sydney, Lynchburg, Boston College, Virginia and Princeton.
Susan Hebert, 18-year-old senior at Mercy High in St. Martinville, La., was named outstanding basketball player in her district, and Most Deserving Player by her school. The 5'10" senior averaged 30 points a game in her seventh year of interscholastic play.
