Priscilla Hill, 9, of Lexington, Mass., has become the youngest skater ever to complete the series of tests required by the U.S. Figure Skating Association to compete in USFSA senior events. The previous youngest was former world champion Barbara Ann Scott.
Bob Burton, of Everett, Wash., shot a par 72 to win the National Insurance Youth Golf Classic in Rochester, N.Y. by one stroke over Jay Collaite. Burton, who had qualified third, offset four bogeys with four birdies in the rain-shortened one-round tournament.
Mrs. Sue Smith, a Norfolk, Va. hair stylist and mother of two, boated the largest dolphin ever taken in Virginia waters. Using a 60-pound-test line, Mrs. Smith landed the 62-pounder (which topped the previous record by 12 pounds, four ounces) in 45 minutes.
Mike Boitano, 9, of San Francisco, beat a field of 1,200 to win the 6.8-mile Dipsea race from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach in 58.53 (with a 15-minute handicap). He had a 1:55 margin over defending champion Norman Bright, 62, once the race record holder.
Rick Stauffer threw a three-hitter as Boyertown (Pa.) beat Danville 4-1 to win its second state American Legion baseball championship in three years. Stauffer's three-year record is 33-6. This season he was 11-2, with 169 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.52.
Mrs. Betty Pratt, of Winter Park, Fla., formerly a Wightman Cup captain and fifth-ranked woman in the world, beat Mrs. Nancy Neeld 6-3, 7-5 at Rhode Island's Point Judith Country Club to win her fourth national senior (over 39) women's tennis title.
