Joy Slater, 18, of Far Hills, N.J., rode the aged gray gelding Roi-A-Dan to victory in the American Horse Shows Association hunter seat medal class of the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg. She beat 103 riders from 34 states in the finals.

Tony Capozzoli, 13, of East Norwich, N.Y., placed second in the New York district punt, pass and kick competition despite being forced to pass left-handed because of a broken right hand. He was national champion at 11 and 12 and runner-up at 10.

Bill Lissotto, a halfback for Perm Hills (Pa.) High School, gained 353 yards in 23 carries and scored a school record 38 points on six touchdowns and a two-point conversion as the Indians crushed Highlands 50-26. He has totaled 1,361 yards in six games.

Agnes Burns, 73, of Laramie, Wyo., beat her granddaughter, 23-year-old Christie Hall, 36-33 in the women's finals of the Tri-State (Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado) horseshoe pitching tournament. She was so consistently close to the peg that she won without a ringer.
