Woody Petchel, Senior halfback for Pen Argyl (Pa.) High, broke the Pennsylvania career scoring records for touchdowns and total points when he rushed for four TDs and 96 yards in a 40-12 win over Nazareth, raising his totals to 79 touchdowns and 486 points.
Kitty Anthony, 17, scored both her team's goals as the Foxcroft School of Middleburg, Va. beat the Sidwell Friends School, the Washington, D.C. area defending field hockey champions, 2-1. Kitty has scored 37 of her team's 54 goals over the past two seasons.
Charlie McGinty, a senior at Erskine College, Due West, S.C., scored eight goals in a 15-0 win over High Point to increase his career total to 100. He currently leads all college soccer scorers with 35 goals in 11 games, and led the nation with 45 in 1969.
Craig Lane, 12, of Santa Barbara, Calif., bowling in a Halloween tournament, won the four-game high scratch series award with an 807 and the high game award with a 245. He also helped his father, Lester, win the father-son category with a total pin count of 1,632.
Carson Long, a junior at North Schuylkill High, Ashland, Pa., kicked field goals of 42 and 51 yards, the latter an unofficial state record, in a 41-24 victory over Mahanoy Area High. The 5'11", 185-pound end has made nine of 13 attempts in nine games.
Gerry Glenn, 27, a sales manager from Panorama City, Calif., won the National Hot Rod Association's world championship in Amarillo, Texas by gunning his 1,500-hp dragster down the quarter-mile course in 6.59 seconds. His top speed was 227.72 mph.
