FACES IN THE CROWD

Jim Arline, a sophomore lefthander for the Wilby High baseball team in Waterbury, Conn., struck out 42 in back-to-back games, winning the first 8-1 and losing the second 6-4 in 11 innings. His 21 strikeouts in the first game set a Naugatuck Valley League record.

Pierre Ritter, a senior at William Penn High in York, Pa., gained his fifth state track title in two years when he won the 100-yard dash (10.0), the 120-yard hurdles (14.5) and the 180-yard hurdles (19.1). In 1971 he took both hurdles championships.

Wayne Aiken was named the athlete of the year at Espanola (N. Mex.) High when he won letters in four sports. In baseball he batted .556, including 11 home runs in 68 at bats, and compiled an 8-0 pitching record with a 1.17 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 51 innings.

Jerry Mondalto, an Amesbury (Mass.) High senior, won 11 varsity letters in four years in football, baseball and basketball. He was named to 24 different all-star teams, including all-state in football and baseball. His three-year batting average was .455.

Kathy Crosby, a 4'11" junior at Marsh-wood High in Eliot, Maine, set state women's marks in the 220-yard dash with a 26.5, the long jump with 17'3½", and anchored the 440-yard relay team to a state record 52.2 in the Olympic Sports Day for Girls.

Larry Dixon, 15, a right-handed pitcher on the DeMolay team in the Ottawa (Kans.) Babe Ruth League, gained his fifth no-hitter in two seasons, beating the Eagles 5-0 as he struck out 21 of the 22 batters he faced. In his previous start, he struck out 18.
