FACES IN THE CROWD

Sue Pirtle, a 19-year-old draftswoman for an architectural firm in Stonewall, Okla., won the all-round championship at the All-Girls Rodeo in Burnet, Texas. In winning the title for the second time in three years, she scored two firsts, two thirds and a sixth.

Gary McNULTY, 31, Of the Philadelphia Athletic Club, defeated 104 other competitors to win the National Biathlon Championship which includes 78 laps (three miles) on an indoor track and 44 laps (a half mile) in an indoor pool—-in the record time of 29:34.

Ray Cragun, 16, of Albuquerque, became the youngest person to win the Albuquerque City Men's Golf Tournament when he shot a par 287. He also shot two 69s to take low amateur medal honors in the Jimmy Durante-Dale Robertson Rio Rancho Classic.

Joyce Bowie of Santa Barbara, Calif., set a national nine-and-under girls' age-group record in the long jump when she leaped 15'1¾", 8¼" past the old mark, at the Southern Pacific AAU Girls and Women's track championships in Irvine, Calif.

Wayne Grimditch, 17, of Hillsboro Beach, Fla., set a world water-ski jumping record. He cleared 169 feet, four feet better than the old record, at Callaway Gardens' Masters Water Ski Tournament in Pine Mountain, Ga. and also earned the overall men's title.

Miguel Bilbao, a 10-year-old second baseman in the Melba (Idaho) Little League, made a bases-loaded, unassisted triple play when he speared a line drive, stepped on second and then scurried to beat the runner back to first base. He is also hitting .625.
