FACES IN THE CROWD

Julie Ann Sapp, a high school sophomore from Fishers, Ind. and seven-time state AAU girls diving champ, became the first girl to compete with boys under the sanction of the state athletic association. Julie won her first meet, 49 points better than the runner-up.

Terry McConville, a senior at Notre Dame High, Niles, Ill., has a fencing record of 512-178 in varsity competition. Besides winning the state foil title and the Wisconsin épée divisional last year, Terry took second to Tyrone Simmons in a recent tournament.

Floyd Svensson, 51, of Orinda, Calif., upset top-seeded Cal MacCracken to win the U.S. seniors squash racquets title in Princeton, N.J. Svensson, who had never won a national tournament, eliminated five opponents, beating MacCracken 17-15, 18-15, 15-11.

Doris Felderhoff, a senior forward at Muenster (Texas) High, set school records of 37.9 points per game and 1,097 career total in four years of girls varsity basketball. Felderhoff is also district tennis singles champ and spiker on Muenster's volleyball team.

Gwen Brauer, 10, of Las Vegas, set a girls age-group record when she ran the 26-mile, 385-yard Las Vegas Marathon in 3:44.59, trimming more than 53 minutes off the old mark. Gwen's time also bettered the national record for 14-year-old girls by 6.6 seconds.

Trent Grabow, 8, of Rockford, Ill., led his youth hockey league team, the Roadrunners, to the state Novice Division Championship, scoring 11 goals in four games. During regular season play Trent, a center, scored 58 goals in 30 games, including 10 hat tricks or better.
