FACES IN THE CROWD

Brad Rowe, 13, an eighth-grader at Taft Junior High School in Crown Point, Ind., led his cross-country team to a 15-0 record. Rowe, who started running competitively just last year, had best performances of 4:41 for the mile and 7:31.5 for the mile and a half.

Michiko (Miki) Gorman, 38, of Los Angeles, set a world best time for women in the 26th Western Hemisphere Marathon in Culver City, Calif. Gorman completed the course in 2:46:36 to lower the 1971 record by :04, finishing 49th in a field of 600, most of them men.

Rudy Fassl, 71, of Cincinnati, rolled the third league-sanctioned 300 game of his career while completing a 744 series. Fassl, who started bowling in 1927 and has 14 perfect games to his credit, is averaging over 200 this year and is a member of the city's bowling hall of fame.

Cindy Brogdon, a junior at Greater Atlanta (Ga.) Christian School, is currently averaging 29.7 points through 11 games as a rover on the school's six-woman basketball team. In the past two years Brogdon has twice been selected MVP in the state tournament.

Tim Woodward and Adam Tanous, eighth-graders on the Portola Valley (Calif.) School soccer team, combined for all the Panther goals in a 3-2 win over Jordan School, establishing a U.S. junior high school record of 32 consecutive victories. Woodward, who scored twice, and Tanous have accounted for 30 of the 53 PVS goals this season. Woodward, the inside left forward, is the Northern California career scoring leader with 50 goals in 45 matches over three years. Tanous, who plays inside right forward, has a career total of 16 points.
