Dan Palma, a senior at Sunnyslope High in Phoenix, placed first at 112 pounds in four wrestling tournaments, including the state championships. Palma was undefeated in four years of dual competition and won league and state titles at 105 pounds last year.
Carolyn Bush, a junior at Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas, led her team to its sixth title in the National Women's Invitational with 72 points and 37 rebounds in three games, winning the MVP and finishing the season with 511 points in 39 games.
Susy Peck, junior at Choate School-Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Conn., had 15 goals and five assists in 10 games to become her school hockey team's top scorer, leading the Factors to a 4-0 record in New England competition and 6-3 overall in their first season.
Danny Hermosillo, 23, of Denver, was named outstanding boxer in the 1974 Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at Denver, winning the 119-pound title with a first-round knockout over Frank Hesia of Hawaii. Hermosillo had a 5-0 record, with two KOs.
Cotton Dillard, 36, of Brownwood, Texas, bagged 10 snakes in 31.7 seconds to win the world rattlesnake-sacking championship at Brownwood. Dillard survived two "scratches" and beat out Warren Clay of Brownwood and Ron Milisitis of Linglestown, Pa.
Charles Wright, 30, the girls' basketball coach at Pillow Academy in Greenwood, Miss., guided the Mustangettes to a 35-0 record, building the school's winning streak to 98. Since joining the staff in 1971, Wright has coached only one losing game.
