Reggie Heywood, 11, of Mesa, Ariz., surpassed the world age-group record for the one-hour distance run, covering 9 miles 773 yards. Reggie holds the national age-10 record for the marathon, 2:57:24, and recently added a record in the 5,000-meter run.

David K. Wimpy, 17, of Wm. T. Sampson High in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, pitched the first perfect game ever recorded there and finished the season 9-3 against adult military teams, with 143 strikeouts in 80‚Öì innings, 18 walks and only eight earned runs.

Nancy Coppola, 17, the most valuable girls' tennis player at Evans High in Orlando, Fla. for two years, has won the Central Florida singles and shared the doubles title for the last two years. Her three-year record of 44-3 earned her a scholarship to Valencia College.

Earl Cline, 39, of Oneida, N.Y., set a national record in his second year of international trap shooting with rounds of 25-23-25-25 plus a perfect 100 for the best score ever in competition over the American Modified clay-pigeon course at Rochester.

Dave MacLean, 22, a junior defenseman at St. Francis Xavier College in Sydney, Nova Scotia, led his varsity hockey team to an unbeaten season and the conference championship, while winning the scoring title with 24 goals and 22 assists. He also had no penalties.

Pat Brettell, 16, a junior at Shawnee Mission South High in Overland Park, Kans., undefeated in two years of dual-meet competition, took his second straight state springboard diving championship with a record-breaking score of 516.95 points.
