FACES IN THE CROWD

Jack Herrington, 39, of Allison Park, Pa., boated a 1,143-pound Atlantic blue marlin on 100-pound test line off Oregon Inlet, N.C. to set an all-tackle world record. The previous record fish, caught in 1968 off St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, weighed 845 pounds.

Jose Aguilar, 13, student council president at De Anza Junior High in Calexico, Calif., won the 75-pound intermediate-class title at the AAU Western Jr. National Freestyle wrestling tournament in Long Beach. Aguilar is undefeated in five years of competition.

Alma Brill, a registered nurse from Columbus, Ohio, was appointed to that city's Boxing and Wrestling Commission, becoming the first woman in the U.S. to occupy such a position. For the past 25 years Brill has served as assistant to the commission physician.

Charles Achenbach, a retired electrical engineer from Hendersonville, N.C, celebrated his 83rd birthday by matching his age for 18 holes of golf at the Hendersonville Country Club. Achenbach has accomplished this feat for the last six years.

Toni Morgan, 14, a member of Atlanta's Mercury Track Club, was voted the outstanding girl runner at the Atlanta Track Club meet. She won the 50-yard dash (6.2), the 100 (11.5) and the 220 (26.2), as well as running on two victorious relay teams.

Don Yoke, 12, of Clarksburg, W. Va., threw consecutive no-hitters to lead his State Farm team to the Central Little League championship. In two Little League seasons, Yoke compiled a 12-0 mark that also included two one-hitters and four shutouts.
