FACES IN THE CROWD

Lange, Julian and Robert Johnson, of Washington, D.C., each won his age-division championship in the second annual R. Walter Johnson Memorial Tennis Tournament held in Richmond. The tournament is named for their grandfather, who coached Arthur Ashe and Althea Gibson. Lange, 12, won the 12-and-under final 6-3, 6-1. He is a seventh-grader at the Potomac School in McLean, Va. His brother Julian, who won the 14-and-under final 6-4, 6-1, is a ninth-grader at Potomac. Robert, a sophomore at Landon School in Bethesda, Md., took the 16-and-under title 6-2, 6-2 and then lost the final of the 18-and-under division. Robert and Julian began playing tennis under the tutelage of their late grandfather and all three are now coached by their father, R. Walter Johnson Jr., who is the tennis coach at Howard University.
