FACES IN THE CROWD

John Corse won three national tennis championships this year. He took the National Indoor singles for 14-year-olds, the National Hard Court singles for 14-year-olds and was the No. 2 player on the Atlanta team that won the National City Team championship.

Amey Rulon-Miller, a freshman at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., led her field-hockey team in scoring, with 11 goals out of a team total of 23 in six regular-season games. Playing left inner, she scored five of the team's six goals in its last two games.

Mark Axford, a senior at Plymouth-Carver (Mass.) High School, recorded two holes in one. The first came on the 185-yard, 15th hole of the Plymouth Country Club and was followed 14 days later by an ace on the 140-yard, 8th hole of the same course.

Wilson Vible, 56, an auto-body metal finisher from Wilmington, Del., lowered two national track records in his age group, running a 5:08.5 mile and an 11:25.6 two-mile. A member of the Delaware Sports Club, Vible runs an average of 50 miles a week.

Beth Harwick, 17, competing for the Mt. Lebanon (Pa.) Track Club in the U.S.-vs.-Canada meet in Montreal, won the 5,000-meter walk in 29:10.4. It was the first international competition for Harwick, who has been race-walking for 1½ years.

Ricky Parker, of Smiley, Texas, rushed for 452 yards in 21 carries and scored all six of his team's touchdowns in Smiley High's 41-6 win over St. Mary's of Fredericksburg. In three seasons the senior running back has averaged more than 200 yards rushing per game.
