
FACES IN THE CROWD
John Grzeszczak, a junior at Grimsley High in Greensboro, N.C., took eight firsts and two seconds in a qualifying meet for the YMCA Nationals. He won the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke and backstroke, 500 freestyle, 200 and 400 medleys and 100 butterfly.
Kevin Nagurski, captain and leading scorer of the International Falls (Minn.) High ice hockey team, has put in 16 goals and had 17 assists in 16 games so far this season. Nagurski, son of football Hall-of-Famer Bronko, was on the state tournament team two years ago.
Claire Morris, a junior forward on the Immaculate Conception CYO girls' basketball team (Grand Prairie, Texas), averaged 25.8 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in 30 games this season. Her single-game high was 44 points against Bishop Lynch High.
David C. Dickson III, a seventh-grader at Central Columbia Middle School, near Bloomsburg, Pa., won three events in the Quaker City Open Table Tennis tournament: the under-13, novice, and handicap singles titles. He has a USTTA rating of 1,537.
Dave O'Loughlin, 33, a Pittsburgh housing coordinator, won the 50th Anniversary Western Squash Racquets singles championship for the fifth time since 1966 by defeating Jeff Sawyer 15-12, 15-4, 15-13. Eighty-six players competed in the tournament.
Joni Huntley, a freshman at Oregon State, set an American women's high-jump record of 6'2¾" at the New Zealand Games in Christchurch, breaking her own mark by 2". A Fosbury flopper, her best previous jump outdoors was 6'‚Öû", her best indoors, 6'1¼".
