
FACES IN THE CROWD
Andrew Prince, a 6'7" senior forward on the Abilene (Texas) Christian basketball team, set a school career scoring record of 1,624 points. Prince also hauled down an even 1,000 rebounds and was named to the Lone Star Conference all-tournament team.
Hodges McClendon, a sophomore lefthander for Abraham Baldwin Junior College of Tifton, Ga., threw no-hitters in his second and third starts. His victims were Kalamazoo Valley Community College (4-0) and Monroe County (Mich.) Community College (1-0).
Jamie Day, a senior at West Seattle (Wash.) High, scored 16¼ points and won four events in leading her girls' track team to a 63-32 victory over Rainier Beach High. She won the 100-yard dash (11.5), 440-yard dash (65.8), high jump (4'10") and anchored the 440 relay.
Bert Jenkins, 50, coached his Gulfport (Miss.) High basketball team to a 40-0 season and its second state championship. Gulfport averaged 91.5 points per game and scored over 100 in 14 contests as Jenkins extended his 14-year record to 443-84.
Natalie Hopkins, 25, an elementary schoolteacher in Toltec, took home three championship trophies from the Arizona State Trapshoot held in Mesa last month. She won the Ladies 16-yard (190 of 200), handicap (92 of 100) and high all-round titles (361 of 400).
Brian Kimball, a junior at Northrop High in Fort Wayne, Ind., established himself as the season's best high school indoor pole vaulter by clearing 16' at the Hoosier Relays in Bloomington. Brian's vault was the third best ever recorded in the U.S. and a state record.
