
FACES IN THE CROWD
Jeff Palmer, a senior at Spring Grove Area (Pa.) High School, became the first pitcher in the 50-year history of the York County Scholastic Baseball League to hurl a perfect game. Jeff struck out six and hit a grand-slam home run in the 16-0 win over Northeastern.
Andrea Cross, 12, of St. Joseph, Mich., set state age-group records in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle (25.9, 55.6) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.1) and was named Most Outstanding Swimmer in her age group at the AAU State Championships in Royal Oak.
Todd Heimer, pitcher-first baseman at Seton Hall University, went hitless his first five at bats this season, then ripped four home runs against Wagner College. Todd's next hit was another homer. He hasn't hit one since, but leads the pitching staff with a 6-0 record.
Craig Saint-Amour, a senior swimmer at Babson (Mass.) College, was voted All-America for the third time. Babson's first All-America ever, Craig specializes in the freestyle and holds nine school records, with 83 firsts and eight seconds at Babson.
Curtis Wright, 70, of Penllyn, Pa., competed in his first track meet in 50 years and won the longjump (8'10¾"), the 50-yard dash (8.2), the 440 (1:31.4) and the shotput (19'2") in the 70-75 age group at the U.S. Indoor Masters Championships in Hightstown, N.J.
Chuck Eby, an Ohio State senior, became the first archer ever to win four consecutive NCAA regional titles as he took this year's Mid-west Intercollegiate Championships with a score of 1,367 out of a possible 1,500, leading the Buckeyes to the team title.
