FACES IN THE CROWD

Ernie Leydecker, 54, tennis coach at Gunn High in Palo Alto, Calif., has led his teams to 105 straight victories since 1969. The Titans won their last match of that year and since then have posted records of 16-0, 16-0, 18-0, 17-0, 20-0 and 17-0.

Sam Altreuter, a junior at Tufts University in Medford, Mass., captured the North American single-handed sailing title in his Force 5 and was voted outstanding sailor of the Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association Championships on Lake Michigan.

Lynn Epstein, 17, of Miami Beach, Fla., won the girls title of the Seamco Tennis Classic in Monticello, N.Y. by defeating Susan Hagey of La Jolla, Calif. 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. Lynn, 11th-ranked U.S. junior, earlier led Miami Beach High to the state championships.

Ronnie Harris, 17, of Charlottesville, Va., missed a tie for the high school record in the 220-yard dash because his 20.6 clocking in Mount Prospect, Ill. proved to be wind-aided. In the same meet he had a 46.4 in the 440, I the best high school time this year.

Pat Underwood, a junior lefthander on the Kokomo (Ind.) High baseball team, pitched three no-hitters and a two-hitter (all were shutouts) in a span of 15 days. Pat, 9-3 for the season with an 0.92 ERA, struck out 50 of the 72 batters he faced in the no-hitters.

Brenda Morehead, 17, of Toledo, Ohio ran an 11.4 100-meter dash, matching the American record during the National AAU women's championships in White Plains. Brenda also holds the national long jump record at 19'2½" and 200 meters with a 23.3.
