FACES IN THE CROWD

Todd Bell, 17, a junior at Middletown (Ohio) High, long-jumped 25'5" at the Mansfield-Mehock Relays to break the Jesse Owens 1933 All-Ohio high school record of 24'11¼". Bell has run the 100 in 9.7, a mile relay leg in 48.8, and is a football linebacker.

Sally Nachman, 17, was voted MVP of the Johnson City (N.Y.) High field hockey, basketball and volleyball teams. Sally also plays on the softball team and set school, league and sectional basketball scoring records as Johnson City won the Class AA sectional title.

Bryan (Axel) Hardy, 18, of Bingham (Utah) High, and the younger brother of Bruce Hardy (SI, April 29, 1974), is a two-time all-state linebacker, an all-state basketball guard and an All-America Ditcher who has a 27-2 career record and a 9-0 mark this season.

Dave French, 22, a senior at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass., is the leading goal-and total-points scorer in New England intercollegiate lacrosse history, with 163 goals and 121 assists for a career total of 284 points. He has led Nichols to an 8-3 record this season.

The team of LARRY MORI (left), 27-year-old graduate student in social work, and LARRY ROBBINS, 21-year-old senior majoring in zoology, won the 34th Intercollegiate Bridge Championship. The two ACBL life masters compiled a total score of 299.5 match points, half a point more-than Michael Zeitlin and Stephen Strauss of the University of Colorado (Denver Center). More than 220 schools entered pairs for campus and regional qualifying tournaments, with 15 schools advancing to the finals at the University of Tennessee.
