Gregory, 13, who is 4'7" and weighs 73 pounds, coasted down the 953-foot Derby Downs track in Akron in 27.61 seconds (average speed: 23.5 mph) to win the senior division of the All-American Soap Box Derby over 85 other entrants.

CHICO, CALIF.
Tonya, 17, tied the girls' AAU Junior Olympic Games high jump record of 5'10" in a meet in Lincoln, Neb. A senior at Chico High School, Tonya also has been the AAU Region XIII champion for two years in the high jump.

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS.
Chaffee, 77, won the USTA hard court 75-and-over championship in Montecito, Calif. Ranked No. 2 nationally in his age group, Chaffee, a retired tennis and squash coach at Williams College, was also a runner-up in doubles.
MARY STIDWORTHY
PRESCOTT, ARIZ.
Stidworthy, 21, a student at Yavapai Junior College and an Sp4 in the Arizona National Guard, won her second straight National Small-Bore Rifle prone championship, with a score of 6,392. She also won the service and women's titles.

CLOVIS, CALIF.
Tice, 30, won the Scottish Highland Games championship in San Diego, triumphing in the hammer throw, the 28-pound-weight throw, the 56-pound-weight throw for distance, the 56-pound-weight throw for height, and the caber.

INDEPENDENCE, MO.
Doug, now 12, set an American record in the 10-to-11 age group in the 800-meter run (2:12.6) and won the 400 (57.9) and the 1,500 (4:46.6) at the National Boys Age-Group Track Championships at Slippery Rock (Pa.) State College.
