Rattray, 46, whose combined coaching record for two sports at Penn State is 143-27-14, guided the Lady Lions to national titles in lacrosse and field hockey in a six-month span. Her teams have won the lacrosse title three years in a row.

Jay, a senior at Mission San Jose High, and Ceci, a senior at Greenwich High, won national high school cross-country titles in San Diego over 68 other regional qualifiers. Jay set a high school record for the 5,000-meter Balboa Park course of 14:53.5, defeating Jon Butler of Huntington Beach, Calif. by 3.9 seconds. Ceci, a two-time Connecticut high school champion, broke the course record for girls, finishing in 17:12.1, to win by 7.9 seconds over Lynne Strauss of State College, Pa.

OLEY, PA.
Joe, 16, was the outstanding gymnast at the national Junior Olympics in Santa Clara, Calif., winning five events and placing second in two others. His victories came in the high bar, parallel bar, still rings, floor exercises and all-around.

MATTHEW GARRETT
SOLANA BEACH, CALIF.
Matthew, 6, scored 83 goals to lead the Firecrackers of the Solana youth soccer league to a 12-0 record and the 5-and 6-year-old division title. The 4-foot, 45-pound center forward had a single-game high of 14 goals.

EWING, NEB.
Jeff, a 6-foot, 180-pound quarterback, passed for 1,172 yards and 16 TDs, gained 1,058 yards rushing and scored 120 points to pace Ewing High to a 10-2 record. Playing safety on defense, the junior had seven interceptions and 81 tackles.
