Tony, 17, led the Milford Mill High indoor track team to a state Class A co-championship by anchoring the victorious 880-yard and mile relay teams, winning the 60-yard hurdles (7.4) and placing second in the high jump (6'2").

Cindy, a 5'5" senior guard at Westbrook High, finished her four-year varsity basketball career with 2,097 points—an average of 21.4 a game—the second-highest total in state history. The White Knights' record with her in the lineup was 84-14.

Scott, a freshman swimmer at Missouri, established a Big Eight record with a clocking of 1:50.55 in the 200-yard butterfly at the conference championship meet in Norman, Okla., lowering the mark of 1:50.66 achieved by Dave Estes of Kansas in 1978. The day before, Scott's older brother Jim, a senior at Indiana, had set a meet record of 48.84 in the 100-yard butterfly at the Big Ten championships in Milwaukee. He surpassed a record held by Mark Spitz, who swam a 49.4 for the Hoosiers in 1972.

Young, an 82-year-old housewife and a 28-handicap golfer, got the first hole in one of her life on the 135-yard 9th hole of the Pinehurst Country Club's No. 3 course. She is believed to be the second-oldest woman ever to have shot an ace.

Broman, a 22-year-old land manager for a utilities company, won the 90-meter ski jump at a World Cup meet in Thunder Bay, Ontario with a leap of 118.5 meters. He is the first American to win a World Cup ski jump.
