Long, 23, broke two national amateur bowling records by rolling his ninth 300 game and seventh 800-or-better series of the season at Blue Valley Lanes in Wind Gap, Pa. The seven 800 series are a career record for amateur lefthanders.

Kinard, 29, three times an Indonesian badminton champion, beat Cheryl Carton of San Diego 11-3, 11-5 for the women's title at the U.S. Open. Her husband, Chris, a June 14, 1976 Face in the Crowd, won his sixth men's crown.

Maurice, a 6'4" sophomore at Balboa High, tied the national 15-and-under high-jump record of 7'0" at a meet in Pittsburg, Calif. His 6'11¾" jump at San Francisco's Cow Palace in February established a U.S. 15-and-under indoor mark.

Amy, 15, has been on 12 city championship teams, won three city gymnastics titles and gone unbeaten in two tennis seasons at Longfellow Junior High. She's a 97% server in volleyball, a 30.2 scorer in basketball and a .513 hitter in softball.

Jesse, a 106-pound high school junior who has won two straight state Golden Gloves titles, decisioned Jose Rosario of Elizabeth, N.J. in the light-flyweight finals of the National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in Toledo.

RUSSELLVILLE, KY.
Adam, a freshman first baseman at Adairville High, hit two grand-slam home runs in a 10-5 victory over Todd Central to tie a national high school record. His total of 10 RBIs in that game has been surpassed by only one other high schooler.
