Hawley, 21, made a record 101 pitching appearances during his career at the University of California, shattering the previous NCAA mark of 83. The righthanded reliever had 20 wins and a school-record 21 saves, including eight in 1981.

Joy, a 12-year-old member of the Kettering Striders who has run track for only one year, won the 60-meter hurdles in her age group at the TFA Nationals in 10.6 and placed third in the 400 meters at the age-group TAC Nationals with a 60.92.

Rocchetta, 32, a police-boat officer, used 40-pound-test line and a live eel as bait to catch a 76-pound striped bass—by four pounds, the largest ever on rod and reel—from his boat, Rainbow II, off Long Island's Montauk Point.

Lynn, who will be a senior at Taconic High in the fall, had a 14-0 record, struck out 122 batters in 118‚Öì innings and hit .434 for the school's 1981 softball team. She also threw four no-hitters, including one in the state regional tournament.

Dick, 35, an Air Force captain, set meet and American records for the 35-to-39 age group at the TAC National Masters Decathlon Championships in San Antonio. His 6,746 points shattered the U.S. mark of 6,183, set by Dennis Stempel of Chico, Calif. in 1978. Adam, Dick's 11-year-old son and a decathlete for two years, set what is believed to be a world record for his age when he scored 2,042 points at the Air Force Academy Invitational Decathlon in Colorado Springs.
