Schwam, 28, a construction worker, broke her women's world record by running 158 miles in 48 hours. At the same time she became the first woman ever to finish a six-day race. In all, she covered 384 miles in the race, held in Pennsauken, N.J.

TREYE JACKSON
NEWTON, IOWA
Treye, a recent graduate of Newton High, won the state Class 3-A 100-, 200-and 400-meter track titles. He was a halfback on the Cardinals' Class 4-A football champions and led the state in rushing with 1,362 yards, 14.3 per carry.

JAMIE KNIGHT
DERAVILLE, GA.
Jamie, 7, a first baseman for the Yankees of the North DeKalb Little League, had 52 hits in 54 at bats (.963) to lead his team to divisional and league titles. In 41 games over three seasons he has hit 47 home runs, including 27 this year.

REY PICHARDO
MOSES LAKE, WASH.
Rey, who recently graduated from Moses Lake High, led the Chiefs to the state AAA baseball title by pitching a 5-4 win over Tacoma's Wilson High and hitting a home run, the first ever by a high-schooler in Seattle's Kingdome.

CANDI NICHOLAS
MOBILE, ALA.
Candi closed out a four-year career at McGill-Toolen High as the only girl ever to be named state tournament MVP in both basketball and volleyball. She paced the Yellow Jackets to state titles in volleyball three times and in basketball twice.

PEDE DICKEY JR.
GREENWICH, CONN.
Dickey, 21, led Tufts to the Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association of North America's dinghy championship on the Severn River near Annapolis. He was low-point skipper in that event and was named Collegiate Sailor of the Year.
