Franke, 82, a retired carpenter, cast 102 ringers in 182 shoes (56%) to win five straight games and the men's 75-and-over title at the World Horseshoe Pitching Championships in Huntsville, Ala. Franke had a high game of 62.5%.

CAROL KRAUS
WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y.
Carol, 14, won Western New York girls' tennis titles in the 14-, 16-, 18- and 21-and-under divisions, all in one week, and then beat Jill Browne 6-3, 6-2 to win the Buffalo Muny Open, becoming the city's youngest singles champion ever.

HOLLYWOOD, FLA.
Naha, 7, a shortstop, led the Golden Lions of the Driftwood Optimist T-Ball League to a 28-0 record and the league and county championships. He batted .893, with 25 doubles and 33 home runs, and scored 69 runs.

LARRY KLECATSKY
PELHAM MANOR, N.Y.
Klecatsky, 41, a physician who rows for the New York A.C., won the elite lightweight sculls at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta—the largest in North America—in Saint Catharines, Ont. to gain his 52nd gold medal, a regatta record, since 1968.

KATHY McCARTHY
FRESNO, CALIF.
Kathy, a senior at San Joaquin Memorial High, shot back-to-back eagles en route to a qualifying round of 69 at the USGA Girls Junior Championship in Greeley, Colo. She's the first player to accomplish the feat in a USGA tournament.

DARRELL ROBINSON
TACOMA, WASH.
Robinson, 6'1" and 134 pounds, now a freshman at Houston, set a national high school and world junior record of 44.68 in the 400-meter dash when he finished second behind Sunder Nix (44.67) at the National Sports Festival in Indianapolis.
