Lentz, 24, was top logger for the third year at the World Championship Timber Carnival in Albany, Ore. He set a world record for single bucking, cutting through a log 24 inches in diameter in 51.3 seconds, two seconds better than the old mark.

WEST PALM BEACH, FLA.
Cathy, a junior shortstop for the Cardinal Newman High softball team, led the Crusaders to their third consecutive state title, with a 36-4 record. She also set school records in batting average (.545), hits (73) and home runs (10).

DOTHAN, ALA.
Barry, a junior lefthanded pitcher for the Northview High baseball team, struck out 109 batters in his 55‚Öî innings this season. He whiffed 17 batters in one game, allowed one earned run in his last 49‚Öî innings and had an ERA of 0.67.

BOB UTLEY
ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.
Bob, 12, set two state age-group records and finished first in six events and second in three others at the Florida State Junior Olympics. His records came in the 100-yard freestyle (52.63) and in the 200 individual medley (2:09.90).

Hackett, 18, was named MVP at the Keebler International track and field meet for recent high school grads in Elmhurst, Ill. He finished first in the 200 meters (20.92) and was edged out in the 100 by .03 second, finishing in 10.72.

DAYTON, OHIO
Haire, a 60-year-old retired ironworker, shot a three-under-par 69 on the first 18 holes of the 36-hole final to become the city match-play champion. Playing on the Madden Golf Course, he beat his 32-year-old opponent, Larry Heil, 9 and 8.
