Jill, 13, a member of the Stanford diving club, won two golds and a silver at the state age-group championships in Mission Viejo. She set state 12-and-under records in the three-meter (319.2 points) and platform (178.6 points) events.

TULARE, CALIF.
James, 12, set a national age-group (11-12) pentathlon record in an AAU Junior Olympics meet at Bob Mathias Stadium in Tulare. James competed in three of the five events for the first time, but scored 3,162 points, 466 better than the old mark.

WILMINGTON, DEL.
Spruance, 36, won her 17th straight state women's clay court championship in Wilmington by defeating Debbie Piper 6-3, 6-0. Later that afternoon, Spruance and her mother, Bunny Vosters, won their fifth state doubles title in a row.
JIM MARTIN
DANVILLE, PA.
Jim, 16, a two-time state champion at Danville High School, won the 98-pound freestyle title at the wrestling junior nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He pinned Ken Gaudreau of Bella Vista, Calif. in 2:06 of the championship match.

MEMPHIS
Evans, 18, established a state junior age-group (15-18) girls' record with a 736 series in the Tennessee junior bowling championships in Memphis. Her score was 32 pins higher than the boy's mark, set by Jimbo Martin on the same day.

DILLON, COLO.
Byerly, 20, a member of the U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team, won the 40-meter title at the first Lake Placid summer ski jumping event ever held on plastic surfaces. Using standard jumping skis, he reached 42 and 43.8 meters.
