Flynn, a senior at UNH, set a world record of 23.77 seconds in the fast catch at the New England Boomerang Corroboree in Amherst, Mass. The fast catch involves five consecutive throws and catches from within a three-meter circle.

Hyndman, 67, an insurance company owner, became the oldest man to win the USGA Senior Amateur title when he beat Dick Runkle one-up at the Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. He's one of six to have won the title twice.

Friedman, a 28-year-old artist, broke Karen Hartley's year-old women's record for swimming around Manhattan by 40 minutes, with a time of 7:01:02. She was the third woman finisher in July's Manhattan swim; she was slowed by a ferry's wake.

HAVRE, MONT.
Kathy, 15, set U.S. intermediate-age records in the 1,500-meter (4:41.6) and 3,000-meter (10:06.7) runs at the AAU Junior Olympics. Last year as a freshman at Havre High she was undefeated in Class AA track and cross-country competition.

ALPHARETTA, GA.
Jeff, 12, pitched the Dixie Youth Yankees to a 12-2 record and the Alpharetta League championship by striking out 117 batters in 53 innings. In the title game against the Astros, a 1-0 victory for Jeff, he fanned 20 of 21 batters.

CEDRIC JOHNSON
LOUISVILLE, ALA.
Cedric, a sophomore halfback at Louisville High School, rushed for 357 yards and scored on runs of 83, 70, 35, 34 and 12 yards as he accounted for all five of the Red Devils' touchdowns in a 30-16 victory over Zion Chapel.
