Dana, 16, won five gold medals and one silver at the U.S. Swimming Junior Olympics. She won the 1,500-meter freestyle in 16:57.31, set national junior records in the 200-(2:03.63) and 400-meter (4:19.51) free and was on two winning relay teams.

Randy, 11, became one of the youngest shooters to score a perfect 25 out of 25 in tournament 28-gauge skeet competition, at Mather AFB in Rancho Cordova, Calif. That day, in the 20-gauge, he twice went 25 out of 25 and totaled 94 out of 100.

Karla, a senior All-State guard at Elk Garden High, had a career-high 49 points in a 55-49 win over West Virginia School for the Deaf. It was the second time this year that she had equaled or exceeded the score of the opposing team.

Ken, a junior tailback at Overlea High, used four ways to score five touchdowns in a 34-20 win over Perry Hall. He returned a kickoff 82 yards, ran a punt back 70, caught a touchdown pass and rushed eight and 71 yards for scores.

Jones, a 16-year-old student at The Browning School, and Illingworth, a 44-year-old metals trader, upset Archie Peck, 47, and Dana Dribben, 34, of Palm Beach, Fla. 26-11 to win the United States Croquet Association doubles title at the national championships in New York. The competition attracted 23 other doubles teams, one of which included last year's champion, Archie Burchfield of Stamping Ground, Ky. (SI, April 4). Burchfield's team was defeated 26-14 by Jones and Illingworth.
