Anthony, a 205-pound senior at Salem High, rushed for 235 yards on 27 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the 9-0-2 Rams past Woodstown 41-6. His first TD broke Lydell Mitchell's 1967 school record of 18 in a season.

Sawkins, a junior defenseman in soccer and hockey at Yale, played games in both sports on the same day. A 3-0 loss to Harvard ended his All-Ivy soccer season; eight hours later he played in a 6-2 loss to the U.S. Olympic hockey team.

Simon, 28, a sergeant, became the first Marine to win the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, beating the field of 11,000 in 2:17:45 and qualifying for the Olympic Trials. A naturalized U.S. citizen, Simon was born in Grenada.

Chesin, 31, a mathematics teacher at Philadelphia's Roberts Vaux Junior High, coached Vaux's 12-member chess team to the national junior high championship in Terre Haute, Ind. It was the Bad Bishops' seventh straight such title.

Joanna and Julie, sophomore twins at Southeast High in Ravenna, Ohio, finished first (18:17.9) and second (18:26.6), respectively, in the 3.1-mile Class AA state-championship girls' cross-country meet in Columbus. Their teammate, senior Tonja Stewart, placed third as the Pirates won the state title in only their second year of girls' cross-country competition. As freshmen, the Dias twins finished second and fourth, respectively, in the same meet, while Stewart was third.
