Tyreese, a 6-foot, 200-pound senior at Jefferson High, gained 280 yards in 35 carries and scored two touchdowns in the Indians' 24-6 win over Terra Nova High to set state career records for rushing (5,219 yards) and for touchdowns (78).

Newton, 67, a retiree, had two holes in one in a round at the Yacht & Country Club of Stuart. Playing the back nine first, he aced the 181-yard 17th with a four-wood and then sank a three-iron on the 151-yard 3rd hole.

Susan, 13, didn't lose a set in winning the International Tennis Federation girls' 14-and-under tournament. She has also won the Kentucky women's amateur title and, though in grade school, the state high school singles championship.

Erik, a junior striker on the Mount Anthony Union High soccer team, scored all the goals in the Patriots' 5-0 defeat of Milton High for their second straight state crown. He was also the 1983 U.S. 15-and-under crosscountry skiing champ.

Reifsnyder, a senior at Bucknell, became the first to win four East Coast Conference cross-country championships, with a time of 24:45 over the five-mile course at Lafayette College. The three-time All-America failed to win only two dual meets in his career. Gulden, 41, the Bisons' coach for 14 years, has guided them to nine straight ECC titles. His cross-country teams have a dual-meet record of 157-7 and a current winning streak of 103. His track and field squads are 81-9 in dual meets.
