Chris, a 5'11", 195-pound senior at Judson High, ran for 2,800 yards and 35 touchdowns to lead the 15-1 Rockets to the AAAAA state football title. He broke by 389 yards the 1978 state rushing record of current USFLer Craig James.

GRETCHEN EBNER
REDINGTON BEACH, FLA.
Gretchen, a senior at Seminole High, set a state record—and qualified for the Olympic Trials—in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.18 at the AAAA state meet in Gainesville. It was .30 better than the record she set in 1982.

Shola, a freshman at Hunter High, won the inaugural girls' high school mile at the Millrose Games in a time of 4:53.39. She also has the best 1,500-meter clocking among high school girls for this indoor season, a 4:29.9.

CRAIG McMILLAN
CLOVERDALE, CALIF.
Craig, a 6'6" senior guard on the Cloverdale High basketball squad, through Sunday was averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds a game for the 16-0 Eagles. He's considered the nation's No. 3 high school "off" guard by one scouting service.

DEITRE COLLINS
LANCASTER, CALIF.
Collins, a senior at the University of Hawaii, led the Rainbow Wahines to a 34-2 record and the NCAA women's volleyball title. She averaged 11.8 kills a game and won the 1983 Broderick Award, given to the top woman college athlete.

RICK SMITH
FLAGSTAFF, ARIZ.
Smith, 32, guided Flagstaff High to an unprecedented third straight Arizona AA football crown. In his four seasons, the Eagles are 43-5-1, including 10-1 in playoff games. Smith's winning percentage of .888 is the best in state history.
