Al, a senior lefthander at Central Regional High, struck out 32 batters in a 13‚Öì-inning scoreless tie with Wall High, called because of rain. He was five Ks shy of the national record, set over 17 innings. Al is 10-0 with four no-hitters this season.

WILLARD IKOLA
EDINA, MINN.
Ikola, 51, coached the Edina High ice hockey team to a record seventh state tournament title as the Hornets beat Bloomington's John F. Kennedy High 4-2 in the final. Ikola, a U.S. goalie in the '56 Olympics, led Edina to a 21-4-1 season.

SHANNON MADDOCK
TORRANCE, CALIF.
Shannon, a senior, scored the goal in Torrance High's 1-0 victory over Alta Loma High to enable the Tartars to win the CIF's Class 4A girls' soccer championship. She had 46 goals for the season, 17 of which were game-winners.

PAT McDADE
WINNEMUCCA, NEV.
Pat, 17, a junior at Albert Lowry High, had a 38-0 record to lead the Buckaroos to the state Class AA wrestling title. A two-time Nevada heavyweight champ, he won 34 of this season's matches by pins—in an average of 54 seconds.

RON NUNNELLY
COLUMBIA, MO.

Carla and Ron led the Jennies (27-5) and Mules (29-3) of Central Missouri State to NCAA Division II basketball titles—the first time one school has won the men's and the women's basketball crowns in the same season. Carla, a 5'10" senior guard-forward and the division's woman player of the year, had 22 points in the 80-73 title victory over Virginia Union. Ron, a 6'3" junior guard, was voted MVP in the men's Final Four after scoring 38 in the Mules' 81-77 defeat of St. Augustine's.
