Bernstein, a three-time national prep wrestling champ entering North Carolina, won the 65-kilo freestyle gold medal at the world junior wrestling championships in Washington, D.C., beating Georg Schwabenland of West Germany 6-2.

Keggi, 19, who will be a sophomore at Ohio State, became the youngest woman ever to win the New England Women's Golf Association amateur championship when she shot a 2-under-par 223 at the Portsmouth (N.H.) Country Club.

Montague, 55, a retired liquor store employee, became one of only three volleyball players ever to win national championships in the open, seniors and masters division when his team took the 45-and-over masters title in Seattle.

Kyselica, 18, who was valedictorian of her senior class at Falls City High, led the track team to a second straight Class A state title. At the girls' meet in Austin, she anchored winning relays in the 400 meter, 800 and mile.

Lewis, 54, in his 30th year as Pitt's baseball coach, became the top winner in the school's history with his 368th victory. A former Panther player with a .293 batting average, Lewis passed Hall of Fame basketball coach Henry (Doc) Carlson.

JOHN TAYLOR
BRADENTON, FLA.
John, 12, led his Little League team, Regional Engineering and Service, to a 24-1 record and the county championship. He hit .698 with seven homers, 28 RBIs and 26 steals, and went 3-0 with six saves as a pitcher.
