Kevin, a senior at Shore Regional High, kicked field goals of 26, 53 and 58 yards in the Blue Devils' 51-17 victory over Pinelands High. The 58-yarder broke the state record of 55 yards set by Everett Morgan of Manasquan High in 1981.

Culbertson, 47, the tennis coach at Charlotte Latin School and a state Hall of Fame player, led the Hawks' boys team to its eighth state independent-schools crown in her 13 years of coaching and guided the girls to their sixth title.

Darrin, 16, won the pole-vault gold medal in the 15-16 age group at TAC's Junior Olympics in Baton Rouge with a vault of 15'6", and followed that with a first at the AAU-USA Junior Olympics in Jacksonville with a mark of 15'3".

Robles, an 18-year-old shortstop, led Guaynabo's team to the American Legion baseball title, which it clinched with a 7-6 win over Brooklawn, N.J. in the national final. He hit .441 in the tournament and was named Player of the Year.

Jean, a freshman soccer forward at the University of Central Florida, scored a three-goal hat trick in the Lady Knights' season opener against Barry University. Her sister, Mary, a senior midfielder who was an All-America and the Most Valuable Offensive Player in the NCAA finals in 1982, also scored a goal in the 6-0 win. During the summer, the Varases were members of the gold medal-winning Long Island team in the women's open division of the Empire State Games in Syracuse, N.Y.
